We are writing to all patients to whom we have been supplying weekly blister packs to.
This service has been provided for some years, free of charge, to help patients who have difficulty in managing their own medication.
Provision of these blister packs places considerable demands on the practice.
It has becoming increasingly difficult to manage and we regret that we will no longer be able to continue with the service. A surge in demand, as well as the complexity and number of prescription items mean that we are struggling for space and staff time do do this – and going forward we will not be able to keep preparing these packs.
Patient safety is our principle concern and this is why this difficult decision has been made.
The last delivery of medication in blister packs will be on 25th March 2026.
We realise that this will be worrying news for the patients that this affects – and for their families and carers. We would like to help patients make the transition from using our blister pack service as simple as possible.
Other local pharmacies and online pharmacy services are able to supply medication in blister packs (sometimes known as trays, dosettes, or medication delivery systems). There may be a charge for this service and for delivery.
Patients should make their choice after discussion with the pharmacy regarding their medication needs. Options include Dalston Pharmacy, Well Pharmacy, Seaton Pharmacy as well as online pharmacy services.
If you wish to choose to move to another dispensing service, please let us know which nominated pharmacy you wish to use.
If you would prefer to continue to have your medication dispensed here at The Croft Surgery, you should be aware that from the end of March we will revert to supplying your medication four weekly in individual boxed packs and you will need to place your order regularly.
There are various ways to help you and/or your family or carers to manage your medication safely.
These include other types of medicine reminders, such as automated dispensers, and smartphone apps. Pill box organisers are readily available to buy online.
Yours sincerely
Dr Gareth Smith, GP partner, The Croft Surgery
